In 1988, F87 got a new paint scheme and a new nose.  In the 1988 competition, it placed 3rd.

F87 is still at UTA and has served as the first training car for teams since about 1988.  It is very interesting to see a new driver get in F87 and come back saying “That is the fastest thing I have ever driven”.  I then respond by saying “No, that is a slug.  Wait until you get into a turbo or aero car…”.  To a person, when I suggest that we retire or sell F87, they all get a sad look in their face and say “That was my first car and I have fond memories of it.  Please keep it as the primary trainer”.

F88 featured a triangulated space frame with large side pods, a fabric body, a Kawasaki 600cc engine, and a modified UTA EFI system. This car had a double a-arm suspension and was the first car to have anti-sway bars front and rear. In competition F88 dropped from 1st to 6th with a broken shaft in 1988.
