F94 in 1994

F94 combined the best of F92 and F93 into one spectacular car.  This vehicle featured a top-mounted mono-shock, a smaller and lighter tetrahedral space frame and a two-piece Kevlar seat.  Other features included a second generation UTA-designed and programmed fuel injection controller with an optimized intake design and a turbocharged Honda 600cc engine with M-85.  The body is all hand formed aluminum designed by an art student, Richard Pelitier.  This car won numerous awards, including Best Engineering Design, Best Use of Composites and Highest Performance using M-85 fuel.  Unfortunately, due to the engine overheating in the very last lap, F94 dropped from 1st to 8th place.  F94 spent two years on display in the Motorsports Hall of Fame Museum in Novi, Michigan.  F94 also has been on display at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and at the A.E. Pestche Automotive Museum.

F94 Today

Today, F94 is on display on the second level ledge in Nedderman Hall (see the Publicity section).  Actually, this car probably doesn’t have 10 hours of run time on it.  It was just barely ready for the 1994 competition and then went to the Detroit museum for two years.  A team member prepared it and drove it once after it returned from Detroit and it hasn’t been driven since.
