F00 in 2000

F00 went away from the 250cc engine by returning to the heavier but simpler 600cc naturally aspirated engine. The frame design on this vehicle makes the engine a stressed member of the frame. This design follows from real Formula One vehicle designs and allows the car to be separated into two pieces easily.  A screw thread that was tapped into the cast aluminum rear upright; this bolt became loose during the endurance event which knocked F00 out of the endurance and fuel economy event.  F00 was in contention for a win, but dropped to 15th place in Detroit.

Incidentally, until 2000, we were able to get the race number assigned to our car as the year the car was entered.  After that, they selected the race number for us.  As soon as we got the car back to Texas we changed the number to be the car year.  That is why you will see some weird numbers on the cars at competition.
