UTA will be hosting the 20th annual “Texas Autocross Weekend” on the weekend of November 5 – 7, 2021. We had to miss last year due to the Covid 19 virus and we were all disappointed. So this year will be the long-awaited return of Texas Autocross Weekend. The original intent was for Texas and Oklahoma schools to get together, but it has grown to be a national event. Please join us for a weekend of pure FSAE racing without the pressure of judging and competition (except for bragging rights). This is a time to observe cars in a more relaxed setting and to see how you stack up against some of the best FSAE cars in the country. Timing and scoring will be done by volunteers from the Texas Region of SCCA.
Friday night we will have a welcome social in Woolf Hall in our shops, offices, and the Arnold E. Petsche Center for Automotive Engineering showcase room.
Saturday will be competitions at UTA’s big lot on the south side of campus. The Saturday morning course will be the traditional 1998 FSAE endurance track that we have run in every Texas Autocross event. Texas-style BBQ will be served at lunch. A panoramic photo of all cars and teams will be taken just after lunch. The Saturday afternoon course will be another course taken from FSAE endurance or autocross courses modified to fit in our lot.
There will be a presentation by GoEngineer Saturday evening to present the new features of SolidWorks and Simulation. Pizza and soft drinks will be served.
On Sunday there will be a formal “Formula Cars Only” autocross event on our campus. The track will be more open than typical FSAE tracks. The entry fee will be $10 per driver. There will be two heats with alternate run/work orders. We will allow up to 4 drivers per car and each driver will get 4 runs in a true autocross style. You will be on your own for lunch although we normally finish close to noon (several fast foods across the street).
We owe a huge appreciation to our sponsors that make this a no-cost event for the participants. First, Mouser Electronics will cover the cost of the BBQ lunch and will provide snacks, soft drinks, and Mouser swag during the day. Chris Andrews of Panther City is sponsoring the free t-shirts to every registered entrant. Matt Travis will sponsor the Port-a-Pots as he has done every year. Taylor Race is the sponsor for the Friday night social. Red Bull will be on site with drinks and displays on Saturday. E-Controls in San Antonio.is a new sponsor this year.
I need all the registration details so I can plan for food, order t-shirts, and assign driver numbers to the competitors, etc. Here is what I need by October 20:
-Names of all attendees
-T-shirt sizes for all attendees
-Names of all drivers for Saturday
-Which cars you are bringing and their competition year and number
-How many will attend the Friday night social
-How many will attend the SolidWorks pizza party Saturday night
-Names of all drivers for Sunday
There is no registration fee for the activities on Friday or Saturday. You will get snacks Friday night, lunch on Saturday, and pizza Saturday night. There will be a $10 registration fee for the autocross event on Sunday.
Please pass this on to those that might be interested but might not be on the mailing list.
